Help Yourselves

First performed at TheaterLab, New York City in November 2025, the week Republicans voted to abolish food provision for the most vulnerable, Help Yourselves is part installation, part-performance, part-social sculpture.

Throughout the exhibition I cook soup to fill a pot in the centre of the gallery. Removed from the kitchen, the space provides a lens for us to reexamine what food is and does for us. Its presence is an invitation: it is for you.

As the right to food edges out of our shared belief systems and access to it is diminished, Help Yourselves is a stark reminder of who our cultural spaces are for and who has access to the fundamental necessities for living.

Here and now, as you serve the stranger beside you and, against all odds, we witness and join such tender moments of connection, kindness and care, Help Yourselves offers us a glimmer of hope.
