Becoming

A series of images created in collaboration with Ville Mäkäräinen and Veronika Tybell. In Becoming, the shutter of a camera operates in place of a kiln in the ceramicist's process: vitrifying moments of interaction between liquid clay and the ceramicist's body in change, transition and resistance. In the series, liquid porcelain pools and cracks across a back, undulating shoulders seem to become smooth, cut clay and hair tangles as the material dries into dust.
